बारी | Bari

कथाकार म्हणून साहित्यिक कारकीर्द सुरू करणार्‍या श्री. रणजित देसाईंची ही पहिलीच कादंबरी. आपल्या दृढ परिचयाचा भौगोलिक भाग त्यांनी या कादंबरीकरता निवडला आहे. कोल्हापूर ते बेळगाव या रस्त्याच्या वाटेवर सुतगट्टी या नावाचं गाव लागतं. तिथून काकती गावापर्यंतची पंधरा – वीस मैलांची, अगदी दाट गहिर्‍या जंगलानं वेढलेली वाट ‘सुतगट्टीची बारी’ म्हणून ओळखली जाते. भर दुपारीही अंधारून यावं, असा हा भाग. त्या बारीची, त्या जंगलाच्या आसर्‍यानं वाढणार्‍या बेरड जमातीची ही कथा आहे.

.This was the first novel by Shri Ranjit Desai, who began his literary career as a storyteller. For this novel, he chose a geographical region he was deeply familiar with. On the route from Kolhapur to Belgaum lies a village called Sutgatti. From there, a fifteen-to-twenty-mile stretch leading to Kakati village, surrounded by dense and deep forests, is known as Sutgatti Chi Bari. This place is so thickly covered that even at midday, it feels dark.

This is the story of that Bari and the Berad tribe that thrived under the shelter of those forests.
